Thousands of Yellow Vests protesters marched through the streets of Paris on Saturday for the 21st week in a row. Police dressed in riot gear fired tear gas to disperse the large crowds. Protesters were banned from marching on the iconic Champs-Elysees avenue, instead gathering initially at the Place de la Republique before marching to the central business district. The demonstrations are being held against French President Emmanuel Macron’s economic policies, and organisers said the protests will continue throughout April, alternating between Paris and other large cities. On Thursday the Constitutional Court of France ruled that ‘named individuals’ could not be banned from taking part in protests as this gave French officials ‘excessive latitude’ over citizens.
